Giving Your Home A Face Lift

For years, we lived in our humble abode, yearning for an upgrade, a touch of grandeur to replace the mundane brick facade. When the house was first built, the cost of stonework was a distant dream, a luxury beyond our budget. Ah, the cunning ways of builders, luring new homeowners with promises of affordability only to inflate the price of every addition, every embellishment. It’s a cruel game where the final tally far exceeds the initial allure.

Determined to give our home a much-needed facelift, we embarked on a quest, exploring countless alternatives. The grandest yet most extravagant option involved bidding farewell to the bricks, replacing them with stones. Other avenues beckoned, like the allure of stone-like veneers, applied either directly atop the existing brick or nestled within its chipped-away depths. Our neighbor’s recent transformation, adorned with veneer stones, further ignited our desire.

Amidst this exploration, we stumbled upon a unique solution: Stone Coating. A magical concoction of powdered limestone and water, blended to a toothpaste-like consistency, ready to be sprayed upon the humble brick. Skilled hands would then sculpt this malleable canvas, mimicking the intricate patterns of nature’s stones. A final flourish of natural stone colors sprayed before the mixture hardened into its limestone form. The result? A breathtaking limestone facade, sculpted to our desires at a fraction of the cost of traditional stonework. There is no need for destructive demolition and no mountains of brick and mortar destined for landfill oblivion.

Fortuitously, we lived a stone’s throw from the purveyors of this unique artistry. A visit to their showroom unveiled a treasure trove of design styles, each more enticing than the last. Our quest continued, driving through neighborhoods adorned with a tapestry of stone patterns. After much deliberation, a final decision emerged, a pattern that captured our hearts.

Emboldened by this transformation, we envisioned a complete metamorphosis extending beyond the walls of our home. A mini courtyard would grace the entryway, embraced by a three-foot wall and adorned with a tile-like concrete pattern. With the concrete vendor’s expertise, our plans solidified. HOA approvals were secured, and we stood ready to embark on this grand endeavor.

The concrete artisans arrived, their skilled hands transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. They laid the rebars and the frame, ready to pour the concrete the next day. Seizing the moment, I laid conduits and wires like a conductor of electricity, extending outlets to the front yard’s embrace. The next day, the crew completed the concrete layer. They stamped the concrete canvas with practiced precision, creating the illusion of a tiled masterpiece. The stone mason followed, diligently constructing the courtyard’s protective embrace.

Anticipation mounted as the stone coat crew arrived, their tools and artistry ready to weave their magic. Once a mundane necessity, the mailbox became their first canvas, reborn with an elegant facelift. A scaffolding ladder ascended the home, reaching towards the heavens, a platform for their artistry. They sprayed and sculpted section by section, transforming the brick facade into a limestone symphony. With an architect’s vision, I opted for a stucco-style column finish, gracing the edges of our home. Three days of dedicated artistry culminated in a majestic spectacle, a transformation that echoed throughout our subdivision. Neighbors marveled, their voices filled with admiration, thanking us for elevating the street’s curb appeal to new heights. Friends and families who visited us regularly needed clarification on whether they had come to the right home.
