Bbackyard gardening is a rewarding and enjoyable hobby that allows individuals to cultivate various plants, from vibrant flowers to fresh vegetables, right at home. It offers a peaceful escape from daily stress, promoting physical activity and mental well-being. Gardening also fosters a deeper connection with nature, providing an opportunity to observe the growth cycles of plants and the interactions of local wildlife. Additionally, growing your produce can lead to healthier eating habits and a greater appreciation for sustainable living. A backyard garden can become a lush, productive sanctuary with little effort and care.
In recent years, the scorching Texas sun has exacted a heavy toll on these plants. By mid-June, their distress becomes evident, and no amount of watering can alleviate their suffering. Our pear tree generously bestows a bountiful harvest of pears each year. However, we only enjoyed them for the first two years before the squirrels discovered their sweetness and claimed every fruit. Despite my various attempts to deter them, all efforts have been in vain. The tree stands close to a large Photinia, providing the squirrels with multiple pathways to reach the top of the pear tree. Now, we harvest most of the fruit as soon as it starts to turn slightly sweet.
